Bahram Ghasemi, who was reacting to the military coup attempt in Turkey, asserted that Islamic Republic of Iran is following the developments in Ankara vigilantly and with high concern.
Noting the calls Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif had made to talk with his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu, Ghassemi said “Iran is deeply concerned about security, stability, unity, democracy and rule of law in Turkey.”
“Islamic Republic of Iran announces its support for the legitimate government of Turkey and urges the parties to refrain from violence,” reaffirmed FM spokesman.
Expressing hope for the early restoration of peace to Turkey, Ghasemi stressed that secure and stable Turkey is of high significance to Iran.
