A few hours after the 2016 Judo Grand Prix in Düsseldorf on February 22, official website of International Judo Federation (IJF) released the newest Senior World Ranking List in which both Iranian representatives have been placed among the 22 top athletes in their respective weight categories.
On the basis of IJF regulations, the 22 top judokas in each weight class will directly receive tickets to Rio Olympics.
Iran’s Javad Mahjoub managed to clinch a bronze medal at Dusseldorf GP 2016 held in Germany on February 19-20.
The bronze medal added 120 points to Mahjoub’s earlier status which reached a total of 726 points climbing four places in the newest -100kg IJF Senior World Ranking List from 31 to 27.
Given that each country will be allowed to deploy only one judoka to the Olympics, Mahjoub’s real ranking would be 22 after eliminating duplicate countries from the ranking.
Iran’s Saeed Molaei remained in the main table of Judo Grand Prix, Düsseldorf 2016 for only two rounds while his single victory brought him 24 teams reaching a total of 580 points and the world ranking of 35.
However, the real status of Molaei would be 21 after removing duplicate judo practitioners of countries.
Accordingly, both Molaei and Mahjoub have secured temporary slots while they need to take part at upcoming competitions in order to stay on the world ranking list.
