In the full-scale attack, the U.S. forces used dozens of tanks, advanced weaponry, and helicopters to bombard the city’s residential areas.
However, the Iraqi militia resisted the massive onslaught of the U.S. occupiers in order to defend the Holy Shrine of Imam Ali (AS) in battles that left hundreds on both sides dead or injured.
The U.S. troops’ blitzkrieg on the historical and holy city of Najaf was made on the pretext of disarming and arresting members of the Al Mahdi Army militia, but the innocent people of the city were the main victims of the clashes.
The attack was actually planned long before and based on a meticulously transcribed scenario, for the U.S. has been trying to marginalize Iraq’s Shia majority through suppressive measures.
In fact, the Al Mahdi Army signed an agreement with the leaders of Iraq’s political parties last May, so the U.S. forces’ unjustifiable attack on the city was clearly an overt violation of this agreement.
In the agreement the Al Mahdi Army announced its readiness to cease their resistance against the occupying forces on condition that the U.S. troops would pull out of the vicinity of Najaf. The Al Mahdi Army also agreed to allow the Iraqi police forces to take responsibility for the city’s security.
But after the U.S. troops’ frequent failures to establish security in Iraq, the occupiers tried to divert attention from the issue by encouraging some of their allies in the Iraqi interim government to level various baseless charges against the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The Iraqi defense and interior ministers and the governor of Najaf accused Iran of interfering in Iraq’s internal affairs and helping the Najaf militia.
These accusations show that the U.S. and some of its allies in the Iraqi interim government are preparing the ground for the implementation of a dangerous conspiracy against the majority of the Iraqi nation.
After the illogical remarks of the Iraqi defense and interior ministers and the governor of Najaf, which were widely broadcast by U.S. and Western media outlets, the joint U.S. and Iraqi police forces started their attacks on Najaf and opened fire on the Holy Shrine of Imam Ali (AS).
The people of Basra, Ammara, Kut, Nassiriyah and other cities in southern and central Iraq were incensed by the attacks and offered resistance to the occupying forces in battles that left hundreds dead or injured.
The U.S. forces even used F-16 jets to suppress the people in Kut, southeast of Baghdad. This means the United States is waging an all-out war against the Iraqi nation.
In brief, the security situation in Iraq is more critical than ever and the continued suppression of its people will spread insecurity throughout Iraq and the region.
Although the U.S. is trying to drag some of Iraq’s neighboring countries into the crisis through provocative measures and the desecration of the holy shrines, the Iraqi people will certainly be able to defend the faith and will resist the attacks to the last drop of their blood.
The U.S. troops have crossed all the red lines and desecrated the Muslim’s holiest sites, an act that the Muslims cannot forgive. Could it be that the U.S. does not realize what serious trouble it has gotten itself into through the attack on Najaf?
