He has compiled about 1,000 proverbs from numerous sources, which will be published in a book entitled “Mexican Proverbs.”
“I began translating the proverbs about five months ago and I will soon finish the book,” said Nasser-Nassir.
“Jose Jimenez, a Mexican literature scholar, has greatly contributed to this work. His compilation of the proverbs is remarkable; he has also provided useful information on the cultural context of the proverbs.”
“Illustration of the book, underway now, will take about two months; I think I need another two months for publication, so I expect the book will be in bookstores this autumn,” he predicted.
“In addition to cinema, I am interested in so many things; translation being one of them,” he said about his motivation for the translation.
Nasser-Nassir’s previous Persian translation of selected poems by Spanish-speaking poets, “There are No Birds, the Tree Sings” was published by Nila Publications last winter.
Beginning his movie career with the comic TV series “The Happy Hour” in 1991, Nasser-Nassir usually appears in comedies in his trademark character role of the fool.
