Iran’s life expectancy increased by 16 years

MASHAD, July 25 (MNA) -- Iranians’ life expectancy has increased to 73 years over the past 30 years, the Medical Council Organization (MCO) director Shahabeddin Sadr said on Friday.

Speaking on the sidelines of the Second Razavi International Cardiovascular Congress, Sadr said, “life expectancy of the Iranians has reached to 73 years (in 2009) from 57 years (in 1979)”.

Sadr described great improvements in the people’s living conditions, their physical and mental health as the main reasons behind such a 16-year increase in the life expectancy of Iran’s citizens.

There has been a great decrease in infant, child, and maternal mortality rate in the country since the victory of the Islamic Revolution, he said, putting stress on the country’s great achievements in preventing the diseases.

According to 2009 CIA, the average life expectancy for an American woman is 80.69 years. American men live for an average of 75.65 years. The CIA ranked Japan at number 3 for the top average life expectancy and America at number 50 in 2009. It also ranked Iran at number 132 in 2009.

The Second Razavi International Cardiovascular Congress was held in Razavi Hospital, Mashad, , Khorassan Razavi Province, from July 22 to 24, 2009.
