Iran to Increase Power Production Capacity

TEHRAN October 10 (Mehr News Agency) – Some 3500 megawatts would be added to the country’s power production capacity next year as several power plants come on stream, Tavanir deputy said here Friday.

Presently, most of Iran’s power plants produce gas and fossil fuels, Mas’oud Hojjat added.

“We are trying to provide possibilities for producing other forms of energy,” he said.

He added that, up to the end of next year, two plants with a total capacity of 3500 megawatts would go on stream, one in the northern city of Damavand and the other in the southern province of Hormozgan.

“Three other power plants are under construction in western and southern Iran,” Hojjat stated.

He said the projects of Seimareh and Gotvand dams, both in the southern city of Dezful, are under way as planned.
