Cooperation with IAEA within safeguards atop Iran's agenda

TEHRAN, May 06 (MNA) – The head of the Iranian nuclear organization said that cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) according to the safeguards agreements and the Non-Proliferation Treaty are atop Iran's agenda.

Speaking at the 1st International Conference on Nuclear Science and Technology and the 30th National Nuclear Conference which kicked off in Isfahan on Monday, the head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Mohammad Eslami said that, "Like many other countries, Iran is resolved to expand nuclear technology. Today, when the world is facing climate change and the collective will of countries is to make carbon zero by 2050, we at the Atomic Energy Organization are working at a faster pace to expand nuclear technology to achieve clean and sustainable energy."

"Iran has planned to reach 20,000 megawatts of nuclear power by 2040 and will implement these plans in the northern and southern coasts of the country," he said, adding that, "we invite countries and institutions that are ready to invest in this field."

"Cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency within the framework of safeguards and NPT is at the top of Iran's policy," the Iranian nuclear chief said.

"We hope that considering Iran's interactions with the Agency and despite the cooardinated media and psychological warfare against Iran's nuclear program, the Agency will be able to play its impartial role as an independent international institution and away from political influences and pressures," he also said.

Eslami further hoped that the IAEA will provide facilities as defined in the agency's statutes and mandates, to ensure that all countries can benefit from nuclear science and technology in a fair way.
