Raeisi urges Iraq to prevent anti-Iran elements use its soil

TEHRAN, May 06 (MNA) – Iran expects the Iraqi government and the Kurdistan Region to prevent the Zionists and anti-revolutionary elements from using their soil for conducting any anti-Iran acts, Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi said.

Raeisi made the remarks in a meeting with the head of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq Nechirvan Barzani in Tehran on Monday.

Referring to the historical relations between Iran and the Iraqi Kurdistan region, the Iranian president expressed hope that Barzani's visit to Tehran would become a turning point in improving the level of political, security, economic, and cultural relations.

Saying that Iran considers the unity in Iraq as an important issue, Raeisi cited Iran's support for the Kurds in different eras proves the fact that the country is a great supporter and friend for them in the difficult days.

Stressing that Iran considers the security of Iraq as its own security, the Iranian president said that Tehran believes in the goodwill of the Iraqi and Kurdish people, but considering the hostility of the enemies, including the Zionist regime, against the Iranian nation, the country expects the Iraqi government and the Kurdistan Region to prevent the ill-wishers from using their soil for conducting any anti-Iran acts.

Hailing the Iraqi government and Kurdistan region's efforts in implementing the security agreement with Iran, he stressed that complete disarmament and the absence of anti-revolutionary elements in Iraq is a necessity.

"Iran has no obstacle to expand economic cooperation and trade relations with the Kurdistan region. We consider the long borders between the two sides as a valuable opportunity to improve the level of relations, but security is the essential foundation and basis of any kind of cooperation and expansion of interactions."

For his part, Barzani sincerely thanked the Islamic Republic of Iran for standing by Iraq and the Kurdistan region in difficult times.

Hailing the role of martyr Soleimani in maintaining the security of the region, he said that respecting the collaborations and interactions with Iran is a red line that they will never cross.

Stressing the need for the complete implementation of the security deal between Iran and Iraq, Barzani said that logically, no one would tarnish the relations with a friendly and strong country at the cost of cooperating with a regime that is in its worst position today.
