The National Army Day, which is celebrated annually on April 18, was named by the founder of the Islamic Revolution, Imam Khomeini, in 1979.
Imam Khomeini's initiative, in that time, could boost the status of the Iranian Army which was faced with internal and external sabotage.
The historic decision by Imam Khomeini came after hostile propaganda for undermining the Army after its successful missions in quelling riots and separatist plots.
The Army of the Islamic Republic of Iran started a growing path after the glorious victory of the Islamic Revolution under the guidance of the late founding father of the Islamic Revolution Imam Khomeini and the wise leadership of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution.
Iran’s Army took a giant stride in manufacturing military parts and equipment. Moreover, The Army of the Islamic Republic of Iran has taken effective measures in the fields of techniques, tactics and doctrines.”
Iran’s Army has tried to realize most of its objectives and fulfill the mission assigned to it within the framework of the Constitution.
Every year on this Day, units from the four divisions of the Army, namely the Ground Force, the Navy, the Air Force, and the Air Defense, showcase their latest indigenously developed equipment.
In the capital, Tehran, a ceremony is held near the mausoleum of the late founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Imam Khomeini, with high-ranking officials and senior military commanders in attendance.
A broad range of state-of-the-art equipment such as missiles, tanks, armored vehicles, rifles, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), fighter jets, radar systems, and air defense missile systems are put on display.
The Iranian Army has always been standing by its people in different challenges, including the recent situation in which the country was grappling with the novel coronavirus.
Since the victory of the Islamic Revolution, particularly after the Sacred Defense, big changes have been made in the military equipment.
Almost all equipment showcased in the army parades is home-grown and enjoys advanced technology.
Up to several years ago, there were no drones in the army while today the army has a considerable might in the field of drones.
The leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei believes that the military and defense achievements of the Iranian Armed Forces are among the best national scientific and technological breakthroughs.
“These advancements and capabilities have been achieved under unprecedented pressure and sanctions and shortage of resources. That is extraordinary work and should continue full steam ahead.”
“That is why they concentrate their propaganda campaign on this subject, particularly on the progress in the missile and drone sector, but logic, backed by the Quranic verse, obligates us to continue on this path with strength.”
The use of advanced equipment in the army is one of the clear manifestations of the "We Can" slogan in the Islamic Republic.
