Iran, Afghanistan confer on regional contact groups issues

TEHRAN, Dec. 24 (MNA) – Iran’s Special Envoy for Afghanistan Hassan Kazemi Qomi and acting foreign minister of the Taliban Amir Khan Muttaqi in a meeting in Tehran discussed issues related to the formation of regional contact groups.

Muttaqi who travelled to Tehran to attend a high-level political conference on the issue of Palestine in the Iranian capital city of Tehran met and held talks with Kazemi Qomi on Sunday.

The two sides exchanged views on the topic of regional contact groups with initiatives of regional countries, which Iran has always supported.

The Iranian side called for expediting the formation of the regional contact groups to solve the problems of Afghanistan.

Also, they discussed trade interactions, including transit corridors, energy, electricity, gas, and other areas of economic cooperation.

Regarding the problems of Afghan migrants, the two sides conferred on mechanisms to solve the problems.

Muttaqi headed a delegation to Tehran at the invitation of Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, Iran's foreign minister, to participate in the "High-Level Political Consultation on the Palestine Issue" conference.

The conference was held in Tehran with the participation of officials from different countries on the initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran regarding the Palestinian people and ensuring their regional and international security.
