Iran’s Gen. Bagheri calls for stepped-up coop. with Iraq

TEHRAN, Dec. 03 (MNA) – In a meeting with the Iraqi defense minister, Iran’s Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Hossein Bagheri called on the Iraqi side to step up bilateral cooperation.

"The armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran are ready to transfer their knowledge, experiences and capabilities to the Iraqi armed forces." General Bagheri told the Iraqi defense minister Thabet al-Abbassi.

"We believe that the cooperation between the armed forces of the two countries is still far from the desired level, despite the many fields and potnetils, and both countries can benefit from the utilization of these potentials," he added.

Major General Bagheri announced the readiness of the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran to conduct a joint bilateral or multilateral maritime rescue exercise in the Persian Gulf.

He further said that the two countries share close positions regarding the Gaza war and the Palestinian issue.

The Minister of Defense of Iraq, for his pat, said in the meeting that, "Iraqi people, with different political views, believe in the divine's promise and they will stand by the Palestinian nation."

Al-Abbassi further stated that, "during my trip to the Islamic Republic of Iran and visiting the capabilities and defense equipment, I witnessed the growing trend of Iran's defense industry."
