Iran’s first budget airline to begin operation next year

TEHRAN, Dec. 23 (MNA) — Izan Air, Iran’s first budget airline will begin operations next year. The airline company after a one-year process succeeded in getting the license for operation last month.

The low-cost airline company has entered into negotiations with a number of investment companies namely Bank Melli Iran, Bank Saderat Iran and the Pension Fund.

The airline will be launching services with a fleet of 181-seater Boeing 737s, however, it is said that its negotiations with Fokker on the purchase of a number of Fokker-100s have run into rough weather, the Persian service of Fars News Agency said here on Friday.

Like many other low-cost airlines, by dropping a number of services to its passengers Izan Air would significantly reduce its ticket fairs; omitting snacks and making use of multi-skilled flight crew as well as economical airliners would be the measures to be taken to that end.

Fares on the low-cost airline are expected to be up to 10 to 15 percent cheaper than competitors. Iran is looking to develop its airline industry as the demand for travel grows.
