West misuses HR issues to exert pressure on Muslim countries

TEHRAN, Aug. 04 (MNA) – Hamid Reza Asefi, former Iranian foreign ministry spokesman said that the westerners’ call for human rights in not genuine and is to spread their cultural dominance.

“Unfortunately, the human rights issues is used as gimmick today to exert pressure on Muslim countries,” said Hamid Reza Asefi, the former spokesman of Iranian foreign ministry.

The Iranian veteran diplomat made the remarks at a forum on the Islamic Human Rights and Human Dignity Day, on Saturday.

The Iranian veteran diplomat divided Islamic countries into two categories of conforming states and independent states. According to him the pressure is directed on those which are independent.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran has its own claims in human rights and it should not be positioned as the accused. Moreover, the human rights is not a western issue as it is framed by westerners,” he underlined.

“Concepts like the right to property, the right to life, labor rights, and equality exist in Quran at their top capacity and even today when the westerners talk about human rights they claim that they want to guarantee human dignity,” he maintained.

He lashed out at westerners for discriminatory approach to Muslims and asserted “if there are rights violated, assuredly they are the Muslims’ rights which have been infringed.”

“The west is after universalizing its cultural values under the pretext of human rights. The westerners are trying to globalize their own set of beliefs with the call for human rights,” he criticized the approach undertaken by the west.
