Geneva talks, Astana process complementary

TEHRAN, Jul. 04 (MNA) – Deputy FM Jaberi Ansari held talks with UN special envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura in the framework of Astana process on Monday.

The latest developments of Geneva talks, Astana process, Syria-Syria talks, stability of ceasefire, cessation of hostilities and peace-establishing efforts were discussed during the meeting of Iran’s Deputy FM for Arab African Affairs Hossaien Jaberi Ansari and UN official in Kazakh capital.

Jaberi Ansari, while underlining the complementary nature of Geneva talks and Astana process, exchanged views on achievements of both processes and their requirements for future actions.

He also hailed United Nation’s role to help reach an agreement on de-escalation zones and intra-Syrian talks.

De Mistura, for his part, announced UN support for efforts made by three guarantor states including Iran, Russia and Turkey in Astana process and urged more active role by Islamic Republic in Geneva negotiations.

Jaberi Ansari and De Mistura, further, put emphasis on emergency condition of humanitarian needs in Syria and discussed the new practical proposals on solving the issue.

The fifth international meeting on Syria in Astana has kicked off on Tuesday with a session of a joint working group on de-escalation issues.
