Mr. Rouhani received on Tuesday morning Sayyed Ammar al-Hakim, Leader of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq who heads a party delegation to Tehran.
President Rouhani hailed success in defeating ISIL and other terrorist groups with which all Iraqi groups, government, and public mobilization forces were credited; “Iran’s government and people has been standing with Iraqi and Syrian governments and nations and will continue to contribute to their battle against forces of the darkness; in Iraqi setting, the enemies of a united Iraq seek to divide ethnic and religious groups in a rich diverse cultural environment, which should be by no means allowed to succeed; Shia national coalitions contribute to national unity and solidarity and the party should be viewed as a pivot for Iraqi territorial integrity,” Rouhani lavished praise on the Shia party.
“Political good offices along with Iraqi Army and PMF in the frontlines will provide a bright path for the future of Iraq; on the face of this however, some powers would still pursue a policy of dividing the country and tearing apart this variegated patch of diverse ethnic groups,” Rouhani told Mr. Hakim, who for his part, provided his fellow party’s initiative to bolster national unity in a post-ISIL era under current conditions.
“We appreciate contribution and the role of the Islamic Republic of Iran in supporting the Iraqi government in fighting terrorism; we want to develop bilateral relations to new levels so as to provide an example for other nations of the Middle East,” Hakim said briefly.
