US refuses to accept regional realities

TEHRAN, Nov. 09 (MNA) – Iranian official Amir-Abdollahian said the United States plans to exert more pressure on Syria in its new term of presidency and refuses to understand the realities of the Middle East.

Parliament speaker’s senior advisor of international affairs, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, made the remarks in a meeting with Faisal Mekdad, Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister, who had arrived in Tehran on Sunday evening heading a political delegation.

He went on to add, “In her documented and published memoirs, Mrs. Clinton writes that Saudi Arabia and certain regional countries have been importing a bulk of weapons into Syria and arming the opposition without any plans and calculations, but the US has been doing this very calculatingly.”

“This is just a tiny fraction of the US confessions to warmongering and strengthening terrorists in Syria,” he added.

Amir-Abdollahian maintained that Iran would continue to throw its full support behind Syria in combating terrorism and make efforts for the achievement of a political solution to the Syrian crisis.

Faisal Mekdad, for his part, referred to the measures of the Syrian government in fighting Takfiri terrorists, adding “our government is in fight with terrorists who are backed by many Western countries, the US and its regional allies.”

He further thanked Iran for its spiritual and financial support, adding “the Syrian Arab Republic will always remain beside the Islamic Republic of Iran as a strategic ally.”
