'The Silence' wins Golden Spike at Seminci

TEHRAN, Nov. 07 (MNA) – Iranian short movie 'The Silence' won Golden Spike for the best short film at the 61st edition of Valladolid International Film Festival (also known as Seminci or Semana Internacional de Cine de Valladolid).

The Silence directed by Ali Asgari and Farnoush Samadi was awarded at Spanish event as the Best Short Movie along with another Iranian feature movie The Salesman, which won the Official Section Youth Jury Award.

The Silence had its world premiere on May 21 at Cannes Film Festival, in the official short film competition.

The short movie has also been present in competition section of London festival which chooses short films for Oscar Awards, Hamptons International Film Festival (HIFF) and Izmir Short Film Festival.

Produced by Giovanni Pompilli of the Italian production company Kino Produzioni and co-produced by Olivier Chantriaux from Filmo, the short film tells the story of young Kurdish refugee Fatma that has to announce to her mother, her serious medical condition. Instead of delivering the truth, Fatima remains silent. The film is made in Kurdish, English and Italian languages.

The Valladolid International Film Festival is one of the oldest and most consolidated in the whole of Europe.
