'New Talents of the 21st Century Never Released in Spain' was the title for a section of Valladolid International Film Festival (aka Seminci or Semana Internacional de Cine de Valladolid) which screened the debut of major under-50 directors of the contemporary cinema of the world.
Iranian prominent director Asghar Farhadi’s Dancing in the Dust (Raghs dar Ghobar) was screened in this section along with works by Nuri Bilge Ceylan from Turkey, Valerie Donzelli from France, Yorgos Lanthimos from Greece, Cristian Mungiu from Romania, Christian Petzold from Germany, and Paolo Sorrentino from Italy.
The Thai director Apichatpong Weerasethakul was another director who was paid homage in this section of the event along with Thomas Vinterberg from Denmark and Denis Villeneuve from Canada.
Farhadi’s 2003 feature tells the story of a poor man who is forced to get divorced because of his mother-in-law’s notoriety as a prostitute.
Co-authored by Asghar Farhadi, Alireza Bazrafshan, and Mohammad Reza Fazeli the film garnered many international awards and nominations at festivals like Asia-Pacific Film Festival, 25th Moscow International Film Festival, Fajr Film Festival, and Pusan International Film Festival.
Acclaimed Iranian film director and screenwriter, Farhadi received a Golden Globe Award and an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 2012.
The 2015 edition of Seminci was held between October 24 and 31, 2015 in Spain’s Valladolid.
