Pres. Rouhani en route to Vietnam

TEHRAN, Oct. 02 (MNA) – Foreign Ministry of Vietnam has announced that Iran’s Hassan Rouhani will make an official visit to the Southeast Asian country on October 05.

“President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Hassan Rouhani will make the three-day visit at the invitation of his Vietnamese counterpart Trần Đại Quang,” Vietnamnews daily quoted the Asian country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs as reporting.

Accordingly, the trip will begin on Wednesday October 05 and is scheduled to run through Friday October 10.

Vietnamnews daily has not provided further details on the upcoming visit of President Rouhani to Hanoi.

X-President of Vietnam Trương Tấn Sang, heading a top-ranked delegation, travelled to Tehran in March 2015 and held talks with high-ranking authorities of Iran over expansion of ties following the ending of cruel sanctions and implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

In April 2015, Rouhani met the then Vietnamese president on the sidelines of a meeting of Asian and African nations in Jakarta and called for reinvigoration of bilateral relations.

Diplomatic relations between Iran and Vietnam kicked off on August 04, 1973 and the two sides have so far developed political, economic, trade and cultural interactions.

Iran opened its embassy in Hanoi in 1991 while Vietnam did the same in Tehran in 1997.

Trade turnover between Iran and Vietnam rose from 80 million dollars in 2010 to 300 million dollars in 2013 while the figure for 2015 stood at 107 million dollars though the two parties have taken steps towards development of economic cooperation after the JCPOA implementation.

Iranian and Vietnamese officials have agreed to increase the volume of bilateral economic transactions to an aggregate total of 2 billion dollars within five years.
