The Iranian squad managed to stand on the third podium following a victory over Uzbekistan in their final encounter at the Asian tourney.
National water polo team pulled out a 15-9 victory over Uzbekistan while Kazakhstan conceded a 7-10 defeat against Chinese rival giving way to Iran’s third-place standing.
Accordingly, the Iranian outfit scooped the bronze medal at the sportive event whereas Japan and China finished first and second with 9 and 8 points, respectively.
Japan had overwhelmed the host team 37-11 in the final showdown to firmly claim the title.
Water polo team of Japan had won all their fixtures except for the one against Iran which ended in a tie.
Meanwhile, in addition to the bronze medal, Iran secured a place at FINA World Junior Championship (20 years & under) to be held in 2017 in Russia’s Kazan.
Led by Serbian coach Aleksandar Ciric, Iran’s U19 water polo team comprises Amir Ghavidel, Arshia Almasi, Mahdi Yazdankhah, Erfan Lashgari, Seyyed Sajad Saviz, Amirhossein Heidari, Alireza Pourang, Alireza Shadpay, Amirhossein Rahbar, Shayan Ghasemi, Hossein Khaleditabar, Kamran Jalili as well as Hamed Karimi.
Asian Water Polo Junior Championship, which started on July 21 in Indonesia, came to an end today on July 27.
