President Hassan Rouhani who was speaking in his departing press conference in Urmia International Airport Tuesday evening, said that his government had planned to hit a target well above zero in the upcoming months.
Mr. Rouhani lavished gratitude for ‘warm welcome’ by Urmia and by Mahabad on Tuesday; “peaceful symbiosis of diverse ethnic groups in the province including Shias, Sunnis, Assyrians, Armenians and a host of other ethnic groups have made the province a true example of unity and solidarity,” he added.
“I believe the government has invested in epic scale in the province’s water sector, and we should turn to modern mechanized irrigation systems in booming agriculture of the region to save precious water otherwise wasted by traditional irrigation modes,” he said of the province’s projects.
“This is for the first time that during 60 past years, our non-oil exports outclassed our imports; this will contribute to cheaper raw material imported beginning sometime this year,” he told the press.
In a question of Lake Urmia ecosystem and possibilities of using the salt dunes of dried parts of the lake, Mr. Rouhani believed that all natural resources of the lake should be used, however with complying with environmental standards and regulations on place; “we have costumers of this salt in neighboring countries already,” he told reporters.
