Tehran, Seoul sign 19 MoUs

TEHRAN, May 02 (MNA) – Iran and South Korea have inked 19 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) to further expand bilateral ties between the two countries.

The cooperation agreements between Tehran and Seoul were sealed on Monday morning by top-ranking official of the two sides at the presence of Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani as his South Korean counterpart Park Geun-hye.

The documents, which were signed in the presence of Iranian and Korean presidents aiming to create a new momentum in relations between the two countries, include maritime transport agreement between the governments of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Korea, MoU on cooperation in the field of transport and infrastructure framework, cooperation in oil, natural gas, refining and petrochemicals, cooperation in the field of water resources as well as a memorandum on cooperation in the field of electrical energy and new energy industries.

Also, memoranda of understanding were inked on cooperation in the field of fishing and aquaculture, cooperation in science and technology and collaboration in the field of higher education.

Another MoU was signed to mark the year 2017 as the year of cultural cooperation and the establishment of the Korean cultural center in Tehran and the Iranian cultural center in Seoul.

Other agreements pertain to a document for cultural, scientific and educational exchanges between the Islamic Republic of Iran and South Korea, co-development of ports, cooperation in the field of health care and medical science, collaboration among Iran’s Ministry of Health and Medical education and Ministry of Health and welfare of Korea and South Korea's export-import Bank, bilateral legal assistance treaty in Criminal matters as well as an extradition treaty.

The remaining accords dealt with issues like cooperation between Iran’s Ministry of Economic Affairs and Finance and Insurance Company of South Korea, collaboration in the field of cultural technologies and creative industries, cooperation agreement framework, as well as mutual administrative assistance in customs affairs cooperation agreement between the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Korea.”
