Iran, UN envoy discuss Yemen over phone

TEHRAN, Feb. 13 (MNA) – In a phone conversation on Sat. Iranian diplomat Amir-Abdollahian and UN Special Envoy for Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed called for more effective efforts in finding a political solution to Yemeni crisis.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian in a phone conversation with UN Special Envoy for Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed on Saturday, expressed his deepest concern over the dilapidating state in Yemen under the continuation of Saudi military aggression and its destructive consequences, saying “at the same time, we are also witness to an increasing growth of terrorism in southern Yemen.”

The Iranian diplomat expressed Tehran’s support for efforts made by the UN Special Envoy for Yemen, calling for further cooperation on finding a political solution to end the ongoing war in the Arab nation and hold dialogues among Yemeni groups.

The UN envoy, for his part, hailed the Islamic Republic’s constructive approach in fighting terrorism and supporting the political process for holding talks among Yemeni parties.

He deemed the situation in Yemen difficult, saying “a new level of efforts has been undertaken by the UN for holding political dialogues in Yemen. We are hoping to see the talk commence in the near future.”
