Ties with neighbors post-JCPOA priority

TEHRAN, Jan. 18 (MNA) – Iran’s Hassan Rouhani has told his Afghan counterpart through a phone call the implementation day is a blessed day for all countries in the region.

President Rouhani of Iran and Ashraf Ghani of Afghanistan talked through a phone call by Afghan official to congratulate his Iranian part on the implementation day of the JCPOA. Mr. Rouhani expressed, in return for felicitation remarks, his gratitude saying that Iran’s government had been, through the history, standing with Afghans and would even improve cooperation post-JCPOA; “Iran’s priority under new conditions after the implementation of JCPOA is widening of relations with neighbors and Afghanistan will have special place thank to many cultural and ethnic shared features with Iran,” Mr. Rouhani told in the phone call. “Through an accelerated pace of operationalization of Iran-Afghanistan Comprehensive Agreement, we will extend the scope of bilateral and hence, multilateral relations across the region.”

Rouhani also congratulated the Afghan president for the country’s success in fighting terrorism; “we cast no doubt on the fact that Afghan government and people will be the ultimate victor in any fight against forces of darkness and extremism, and the Islamic Republic of Iran’s preference is to see a secure and stable Afghanistan along its eastern borders, and we will spare no efforts to help the country in tackling security issues,” he told Mr. Ghani.

Ashraf Ghani for his part hailed the implementation of the JCPOA; “Afghanistan wants improved ties with Iran in all fields of interest and I will wage efforts to operationalize the agreements in shortest possible time; we are resolved to boost bilateral cooperation with our western neighbor now Iran’s government is focused on the implementation issues,” he told through phone call. “We demand a more active role for Iran in our fight with ISIL and other terrorist groups,” he concluded.
