The 37th general assembly of CSIT was held in Mexico where after hearing the reports of the federation’s delegates who had visited Iran, all participating members voted for the permanent membership of Iran.
The President of CSIT Harald Bauer deemed Iran as very active in the fields of local and international sports; "according to studies carried out by the board of directors and based on documented observations as well as submitted reports, Iran possesses able human resources and owns the capacity to hold exciting contests and festivals being ready to get promoted from temporary to permanent membership,” he added.
CSIT has its roots in the Workers' Sport Movement, founded in Ghent/Belgium on May 10th, 1913 and after both World Wars CSIT was re-established, first in Luzern/Switzerland (September 14th, 1920) and second in Brussels/Belgium (May 30th, 1946) with the name 'Comité Sportif International du Travail'. It is an international labour movement and trade union sporting organisation, based in Vienna and it was recognized by the International Olympic Committee in 1986.
