TEHRAN, Jan. 16 (MNA) – The police commander of Hormozgan province in the south of Iran said that 118,000 liters of smuggled fuel were seized during a week in Hormozgan province.

Brigadier General Gholamreza Jafari said on Monday that police forces seized 118,000 liters of smuggled Diesel fuel in operations in the Hormozgan province during a week.

57 offender has also been arrested and handed to the judiciary, he added.

He further noted that 33 vehicles carrying smuggled fuel were identified and seized.

Subsidized fuel in Iran is seen as an opportunity for smugglers to draw huge benefits. Iran, however, re-imposed using fuel cards and rationed gasoline back in November 2019 which was aimed in part to take the smuggling under control.
