TEHRAN, Aug. 20 (MNA) – Iraq's counter-terrorism forces killed the ISIL chieftain Abu Maryam al-Qahtani and five other terrorists in Saladin province.

The ISIL terrorists were killed in Hamrin mountainous areas, the statement by Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Command said in a statement.

According to this report, Al-Qahtani and his team were killed in an airstrike by Iraqi fighter jets in the Hamreen mountain range.

The Iraqi command added that the aerial operation was carried out under the guidance of the General Command of the Armed Forces and with the participation of the Federal Intelligence and Investigation Department in the Ministry of Interior and the Iraqi Air Force.

The statement added that Al-Qahtani and his friends were involved in assassinating and kidnapping of citizens and security forces by creating fake checkpoints near the areas around the Hamreen mountains.
