TEHRAN, Dec. 02 (MNA) – Austrian Ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Iran Stefan Scholz said that Islamic Republic of Iran is one of the safest countries in the world, which has been proven by a reliable UK-based research institute.

He made the remark in a meeting with Governor General of Hamedan province Seyed Saeed Shahrokhi and added, “presently, Austria holds the rotating presidency of European Union (EU) and intends to enhance and strengthen its relation with the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

The amicable relationship between Islamic Republic of Iran and Austria dates back to 700 years ago. Therefore, Hamedan province has had a pivotal role that can help boost bilateral relationship between the two countries to a great extent, he stressed.

Starting cooperation in various cultural, industrial, agricultural and economic fields, has been cited as one of the main aims behind visiting Tehran, he said, adding, “accountability and abiding by ethics are of the two important objectives which can strengthen cooperation between the two countries, so that we intend to deepen this cooperation between Austria and Hamedan province.”

The ambassador went on to say that there was industrial cooperation between Austria and a steel production company in Hamedan province in previous and presently, effective steps have been taken for enhancing bilateral cooperation in economic and investment fields.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the ambassador focused on setting up economic enterprises and establishing relationship in this field adding, “currently, Small- and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs) constitute 97 percent of economic enterprises of this country which are busy active in the field of tourism.”

Transferring technical knowhow, important and key role of Small- and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs) can be fruitful in progressing economic status of the two countries, he noted.

In this meeting, Scholz also awarded a book and CD of cultural activities of Austria to the governor general of Hamedan province.
