TEHRAN, Nov. 14 (MNA) – Ashkan Rahgozar’s debut feature ‘The Last Fiction’, an animated interpretation of a popular Persian folklore, has won the best film award at the 3rd Ajayu International Animation Festival in Puno, Peru.

The animated movie 'The Last Fiction' is an open interpretation of the story of 'Zahhak', a page from the historical identity of Iranians and one of the central tales of the 'Book of Kings/Shahnameh': the masterpiece of the great “Ferdowsi".

Ashkan Rahgozar is the director of ‘The Last Fiction’. The main idea of the recounting of this tale is to lend a different perspective to the legends and heroes of ancient Iranians. Production started in 2010, and since then over 100 animators have worked on the film.

The movie received the award “for its technical quality, original script, and great ability for interpreting the mythology of the region in a fantastic way,” the festival jury said in its statement.

The voice cast includes top Iranian actors such as Leila Hatami ('A Separation'), Parviz Parastui ('Today') and Ashkan Khatibi ('So Close, So Far').

Earlier in October, ‘The Last Fiction’ won the Cocomics Music Prize at the 20th Bucheon International Animation Film Festival in South Korea.

The 3rd Ajayu International Animation Festival, which was held from November 7th to 10th, 2018, in Puno – Peru, in this new edition consolidated the work done in the activities of the past years, becoming an important event for the cinema in Peru. The Ajayu Festival is a window so that the world of animation can be seen taking advantage of the celebrated days of the city of Puno, generating diverse public through their projections, talks, advice and workshops.
