TEHRAN, Oct. 27 (MNA) – Gas production in the offshore Phase 14 of the giant South Pars Gas Field in the Persian Gulf has been doubled with the phase’s second platform becoming fully operational.

According to Hamidreza Masoudi, the director of Phase 14, the giant 2,200-ton satellite platform 14C has been fully installed and is now extracting sour gas.

The platform is slated to add over 500 million cubic meters (14.1 million cubic meters) to the giant field’s production capacity.

The phase’s first platform, 14A, went on full swing in January with similar production rate. With the new gas structure in place, the phase’s production capacity has reached 1 billion cubic feet (28.2 million cubic meters). This equals the output rate of a South Pars phase.

However, the giant phase is double the size of standard phases. It comprises two other platforms, namely 14B and14D, which are being constructed by domestic experts.

Phase 14 is aimed at producing 56 million cubic meters per day of gas, 400 tons of sulfur, 2,800 tons of propane, 80,000 barrels of condensates and 2,550 tons of petrochemical feedstock, once fully operational.\

The country’s gas production capacity stands over 800 million cubic meters a day. Supplies from South Pars make up nearly two-thirds of Iran’s total gas demands.
