The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemned the move by the US government to transfer its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem and proclaim Jerusalem as the capital of the occupying regime, calling it a flagrant violation of international resolutions.
Following is the full text of Foreign Ministry's statement:
The city of Quds, locating the al-Aqsa Mosque as the first Muslim Qiblah, is an integral part of Palestine and is considered one of the most important holy places of Islam which holds a special position among Muslims.
Israeli regime has taken many measures to take over the city in its entirety, including the expulsion of the main inhabitants, the usurpation of their property and their lands, the replacement of Jews with the aim of changing the city's demographic composition, destroying Islamic holy sites and places of worship, the desecration of the al-Aqsa Mosque through allowing the arrival of hardliner Jews to this Islamic place, creating restrictions on Muslims for pilgrimage and participation in Friday prayers and overthrowing the citizenship rights of Palestinian residents.
The Islamic Republic of Iran has consistently emphasized that the main cause of the collapse of Middle East stability and security is the continuation of occupation and the unequivocal support of the US government for the Zionist regime and the denial of the oppressed Palestinian people from their basic rights to the formation of an independent Palestinian state with Al-Quds as its capital.
The Islamic Republic of Iran has consistently emphasized that the main cause of the collapse of Middle East stability and security is the continuation of occupation and the unequivocal support of the US government of the Zionist regime and the denial of the oppressed Palestinian people from their basic rights to the formation of an independent Palestinian state with Al-Quds as its capital.
The US provocative decision to recognize the city of Quds as the integrated capital of the Zionist regime will not bring peace and stability to the region, and on the contrary, it will reveal US government's intentions and discredit this country’s claims in the eyes of parties who still believe in the US impartiality in the peace negotiations. It will also provoke Muslims’ anger and spark a new Intifada, and intensify radicalization and more aggressive and violent behaviors that Zionist regime will be responsible for.
Given the fact that the city of Quds is considered as occupied according to the United Nations resolutions, the US action to recognize this city as the capital of the occupation regime of Quds is considered to be a blatant violation of international resolutions. Therefore, the Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemns this act and calls on the international organizations, influential countries, and especially the Islamic states, to maintain the stability of the region and prevent the United States from doing so, which is only for the benefit of the Zionist regime.
While expressing its solidarity with the Palestinian people, the Islamic Republic of Iran once again emphasizes the important responsibility of the international community, the United Nations in particular, to end the occupation of Palestine and the holy Quds and help the people of that land achieve their fundamental rights.
