TEHRAN, Aug. 30 (MNA) – Iranian Deputy FM Jaberi Ansari met with Syrian President Assad in Damascus on Wednesday and exchanged views on the latest developments in the region.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Jaberi Ansari who is visiting Damascus met with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Wednesday. The Iranian top negotiator of Astana talks visited the Syrian capital city prior to the next round of talks to be held in September in Astana.

Assad and Jaberi Ansari exchanged views on the latest regional and Syrian developments with focus on the negotiations for the political settlement of the civil strife in the war-torn country.

In the beginning of the meeting, the Iranian senior diplomat gave an account of Iran’s diplomatic efforts for resolving the crisis in Syria, elaborating on diplomatic talks with regional and international players. He urged that the speed of developments in the region requires continuous exchange of views and closer relations between the two sides.

The Syrian president, in this meeting, extended gratitude to ‘the nation, government, and Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran who have supported Syria in the war against terrorism’.  

He underlined the necessity of keeping vigilance and the bridge between Iran and Syria in the current stage of events.

The two sides reviewed the latest field and political developments with the horizons ahead of political resolution of the Syrian crisis in the framework of Astana talks.
