TEHRAN, May 16 (MNA) – Iranian athletes have earned seven more medals at Islamic Solidarity Games in Azerbaijan raise the country’s total medal count to 24 at the international tournament.

The Iranian caravan, who had concluded the second day of the event with 17 medals, managed to increase the tally to 24 on Monday though the Islamic Republic of Iran’s overall ranking has remained constant in the fifth place.

Iran had once climbed to the fourth position in the medal table but Indonesian sportsmen and women leapfrogged the Persians who returned to the fifth position again.

On Monday, Najmeh Khedmati, 2014 Asian Games gold medalist, offered praiseworthy athletic skills in the final of women's 50m rifle 3 positions at the Baku Shooting Center in the Azerbaijani capital city of Baku, and secured the title by recording an impressive score of 454.7 points. She was followed by her compatriot Elaheh Ahmadi who marked 451.6 points to stand on the second podium. The bronze medal of the category was bagged by another Iranian female sports shooter Mahlagha Jambozorg with a final score of 441.2.

Additionally, Iran’s Mohammad Ahmadi won the bronze medal at the end of men's 50m pistol contests with 200.9 points. Turkey’s Yusuf Dikec snatched gold with 223 points while Ismail al-Abri of Oman settled for the silver medal with 220.8 points.

Iranian artistic gymnast, Hadi Khanarinejad, earned 13.58 points in men’s rings to land third. Ibrahim Colak of Turkey stood on top of the podium with 15.25 points followed by Azerbaijani contestant Bence Talas who went for silver with 14.50 points.

Saeedreza Keikha, Iran’s other gymnast, also tallied 14.20 points in the men's pommel horse and occupied the second position. Gold went to Talas of Azerbaijan who bagged 14.25 points. Having bagged 13.60 points, Qatari contestant Ahmed Aldyani claimed the bronze in the same event.

Moreover, Iran’s Majid Asgari competed in the men's 69-kilogram weightlifting class in Baku games and managed to bring home a gold medal by lifting an aggregate total of 316 kilograms. Second and third positions were taken by Turkey’s Daniyar Imayilov and Doston Yokubov from Uzbekistan.

The 4th edition of Islamic Solidarity Games kicked off in Baku, Azerbaijan, on May 12 under the motto ‘Solidarity is Our Strength’ and will conclude on May 22, 2017.

Turkey has taken over host Azerbaijan and is on the top of the medal count table with 92 medals including 35 gold, 31 silvers and 26 bronzes. Azerbaijan is now in the second position with 68 medals (33 gold, 23 silvers, 12 bronzes) while Uzbekistan ranks third with a total of 30 medals (six gold, six silvers and 18 bronzes).

Indonesia, Iran, Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Turkmenistan and Qatar have earned have landed 4th to 10th respectively.
