The tournament, convened in the western Kazakh city of Atyrau, came to an end in Friday with South Koreans winning the title with seven gold and two silver medals and a total of 99 points.
Taekwondo practitioners of Iran landed second with one bronze, two silver and three gold trophies bagging a total of 61 points. Meanwhile, the host country athletes stood on the third podium with one silver and one bronze and 42 points.
Hamed Asghari, Hamidreza Hadian and Mohammad Hassan Yazdani clinched Iran’s three gold medals while Hamidreza Sadri and Ahmadreza Mokhtari brought home two silver medals. The only bronze medal of Iran was claimed by Mehran Barkhordari.
The tournament had brought together dozens of male and female taekwondo practitioners from various Asian countries, including Afghanistan, China, Chinese Taipei, India, Indonesia, Iran, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Lebanon, Pakistan, the Philippines, South Korea and Thailand.
The 9th edition of the Asian Junior Taekwondo Championships kicked off in Atyrau, Kazakhstan, on April 19, and wrapped up April 21, 2017.
Iranian referees Hamid Assadollahi and Zahra Eftekhari officiated at the continental sports event.
