Bahman Namvar Motlagh, Deputy Head of Iran's Cultural Heritage Handicrafts and Tourism Organization (ICHHTO), said handicrafts indices were following an upward trend in all provinces as well as that domestic sales have registered a remarkable growth thanks to activation of handicraft workshops and promotion of new designs.
“Various provinces have enjoyed growth in different indices of handicrafts fields,” highlighted the official adding “knowledge-based centers have also been commissioned in cooperation with the universities.”
He went on to note that Iran’s handicrafts had gone out of business but now they are known worldwide through holding international conferences on handicrafts including those in Isfahan and East Azarbaijan provinces.
During the meeting, the organization’s directors also announced that major achievements of ICHHTO last year (ended March 21) were displaying Iranian handicrafts in 25 foreign exhibitions, increase of handicrafts exports by 67 percent and decline of imports by 52 percent.
