Reza Najafi, Iranian ambassador to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and other international organizations in Vienna, maintained that the latest report by the UN nuclear agency which is the first in 2017 has once again confirmed that all of Iran’s nuclear activities have been within the framework of the nuclear deal dubbed JCPOA which came into effect in 2015.
“As a whole, most of the report is similar to the previous one and has only the technical changes since the last report added to it,” Najafi said.
He went on to add that the most notable achievement mentioned in the report is the injection of uranium hexafluoride (UF6) into advanced domestically-manufactured centrifuges, known as IR-8, which is an “affirmation of the continuing nuclear research and development activities of Iran according to the long-term plan announced by the Islamic Republic.”
Najafi congratulated Iranian nuclear scientists over this new technical achievement, adding “the report also mentions the documents approved by the Joint Commission and their implementation, and the completion of the previously announced measures in regard to Fordow fuel enrichment plant.”
“Verification of the heavy water shipments abroad to be sold to foreign buyers is another issue mentioned in the report,” he added.
Najafi went on to add, “the report also notes the import of the first 5kg batch of 20% enriched uranium to be used in Tehran reactor, and the acceptance of new inspectors who have replaced the ones removed from Iran’s list.”
The import of 125 tons of natural uranium known as yellowcake was also mentioned by the report.
