Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Ghasemi also congratulated national wrestlers for their championship at this significant sporting competition, adding “this highly valuable victory and the holding of the internationally significant sporting event which brought our national wrestlers their sixth consecutive championship are without doubt the result of coordination, cooperation and collective participation from political, sports, and security officials.”
Iranian city of Kermanshah was host to the 45th round of the 2017 Freestyle World Cup on 16-17 February, in which Iran’s national squad of freestyle wrestlers defeated the American finalists and won the championship title for the sixth consecutive year.
The US wrestling team had reached the final matches after defeating Russia, Georgia and Azerbaijan in group A of the competition. Iran defeated Turkey, India and Mongolia in group B to reach the final.
