TEHRAN, Dec. 13 (MNA) – Iranian Taekwondo practitioners failed to scoop medals at 2016 WTF World Taekwondo Team Championships in Azerbaijan.

Iran’s taekwondo has offered unsatisfactory performances in tow recent major event in the Azerbaijan Republic including WTF World Taekwondo Grand Prix Final from December 9-10 as well as 2016 WTF World Taekwondo Team Championships on December 12-13.

Comprising five athletes, Iran’s taekwondo outfit ended career at Grand Prix Final evet with only one gold medal clinched by Sajjad Mardani.

In Team Championships also, Iran had no better condition and despite breezing past Russia in the opening round, Iranian taekwondo fighters suffered two successive losses in the face of South Korea and Turkey which dealt the coup de grâce to Iran’s career in the year 2016.

The Iranian outfit, which had been seeded in Group A against Russia, South Korea and Turkey, comprises Farzan Ashourzadeh, Mahdi Jalali, Siavash Fakhraei and Saeid Rajabi. Group B however was formed by Azerbaijan Republic, Belgium and the US.

World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) has top teams to Team Championships which is being competed in Sarhadchi Olympic Sports Complex of the Azerbaijani capital Baku on December 12-13.
