Deputy head of Khuzestan Ports and Maritime Administration Abutaleb Gerailou made the remarks noting that arrival of the giant ship will accelerate activities of container shipping lines at the Iranian port.
“Continuous commute of large vessels of container shipping lines from various South Asian countries to the Iranian port city of Bandar Imam Khomeini as well as existence of ready-to-use facilities and equipment at its exclusive container terminal has turned the port complex into a hub for loading and unloading of goods in the northwest of Persian Gulf,” he underlined.
The official went on to maintain that a portion of the cargo unloaded at the port will be transshipped to nearby ports like Bushehr and Khorramshahr as well as to Iraq.
Given the willingness of domestic and foreign investors for financing development and equipment of loading and unloading terminals, excellent opportunities have emerged for boosting container traffic and taking full advantage of potentials at the country’s large commercial port.
The recently-arrived container ship, which is 304 meters long and 42 meters wide, despite being a rare vessel to berth as Bandar Imam Khomeini, was tied up at the Iranian port under completely safe conditions thanks to skillfulness of offshore operations forces.
