TEHRAN, Aug. 18 (MNA) – Iranian Parliament's General Director for International Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian stressed that regional conflicts should be addressed inside the region with regional states.

If the US and Saudi Arabia did not sabotage and take measures supporting terrorists and armed groups, Syrian issue could be settled through political ways, said Amir-Abdollahian in his meeting with Norwegian Foreign Minister Børge Brende in Tehran.

Pointing to the issues in Syria, Iraq and Yemen, he said the US was willing to resolve the regional conflicts mutually with Iran, however, its faithlessness and the historical record of its attitude against Iran was a serious obstacle to any trust on the country to resolve regional issues, while the issues must be addressed in the region with the elements inside the region.

Pointing to the positive role of pro-Syrian international group and the efforts of UN envoy for Syria, he underlined Iran's position from the beginning of the conflict was to resolve the issue through political dialogue and rejecting any security and military methods as ineffective.

He said Iran is playing an advising role in helping Iraq and Syria fight against terrorism.

Børge Brende, for his part, said Norway is ready to help resolve issues and conflicts in the region, including in Syria.

He underlined that Norway supports a political solution to Syrian crisis and will also help to accelerate the process, calling upon the parties to reach shared principles regarding the crises.

Pointing to Iran-Russia cooperation in various sectors, Brende said these efforts are necessary to resolve the Syrian crisis.

Norwegian FM clarified his country's viewpoints on the developments in Iraq and Bahrain and emphasized the need to respect the rights of nations.
