Eklil Ahmad Hakimi, the Afghan Minister of Finance, said that Afghan officials are eager to expand bank and insurance relations with Iran and called for an immediate measure to ease obstacles to these areas of cooperation.
The Afghan minister, who arrived in Tehran on Monday to sit the 5th joint economic commission of Iran and Afghanistan on Tuesday and Wednesday, made the remark in his meeting with Iranian Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs, Ali Tayyebnia, on Wednesday.
“While the current annual volume of trade between Iran and Afghanistan is $2.5 billion, it can reach to at least $6 billion in a very short run of bilateral cooperation,” said Iran’s Tayebnia for his part, welcoming the Afghans’ call of broadening bilateral ties.
The Iranian official highlighted that neighborhood has led to short distance between Iran and Afghanistan and as a result a noticeable reduction occurs in the shipping costs that can lead to day-by-day improvement of volume of trade between the two countries.
“I hope that after the signing of the agreements on costumes cooperation and reciprocal investment, very soon, we would have the bilateral double taxation treaty in trade between the two countries,” highlighted the Iranian minister.
