TEHRAN, Jun. 26 (MNA) – Iran’s fastest runner Hassan Taftian finished third at Bilbao Athletics Meeting in Spain failing to secure a place at Rio Olympics.

The Spanish event dubbed as XVI Reunión Internacional de Atletismo Villa de Bilbao convened on Saturday evening in Spain where Iran’s Taftian landed in the third place of 200m sprint clocking 21.08 seconds.

Two Cuban runners finished in 20.54 and 20.82 seconds to win first and seconds titles at the sportive event.

Attended by champion runners from several world countries, the tournament marked an excellent opportunity to receive Rio Olympic quotas.

In order to secure a spot in 2016 Summer Olympic Games, Taftian had to set a record of 20.50 seconds as the Olympic entrance criterion.

Also, Iran’s discus thrower Ehsan Hadadi only managed to stand in the fourth place by throwing 62.85 meters.
