At the order of President Rouhani, the Cabinet held an emergency meeting on Friday evening in order to investigate the painful Mina incident and the death and injury of Iranian pilgrims.
The meeting discussed and exchanged ideas on various aspects of the incident and made certain decisions after reviewing the measures taken by responsible institutions.
Iranian Ministers expressed their condolences to the Leader, world’s Muslims, and the Iranian nation on this traumatic and painful accident.
Calling the Saudi government officials as responsible for the safety of pilgrims, the ministers emphasized that the Saudi Arabia government must be held accountable and the Iranian government feels committed to diligently preserve people’s rights in this regard.
The Cabinet appointed Iran’s foreign minister to cooperate with other Islamic countries to investigate the causes of the accident and to prevent similar incidents by taking necessary actions.
Iran’s Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Ali Jannati was also appointed to travel to Saudi Arabia as the government’s representative to take required measures.
In order to manage the flow of events in the country, a committee was formed headed by the Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli consisting of several other ministers and officials; and other executive agencies were asked to remain coordinated with this committee.
