The thermometer hit the alarming record of 38 degrees Celsius in the Russian Arctic town of Verkhoyansk on Saturday.

The highest daily total of the melt season was registered on July 31 with 11 Gigatones of mass loss, which equals over 10 billions tons of ice melted in 24 hours.
