Avini became famous for “The Narration of Triumph” and was considered a “master of martyred writers” by his colleagues and war veterans due to the fervent narrations he wrote for his documentaries.
“If a production keeps fresh over the years, having preserved its values, it will remain eternal in the history of cinema. This has happened to most of Avini’s works. They are still watched and liked by viewers,” he told the Mehr News Agency.
“Some of his docs are the most highlighted experiences of Iran’s documentary cinema. He made over 100 docs. No filmmaker had had this opportunity to concentrate on the issues he loved the most. His years of diligent research works and activity made his works perfect and eternal,” he added.
“One can easily see the character, spirit and beliefs of Avini in his docs. He was reborn after the Islamic Revolution and experienced a new life. The close scrutiny of his documents to (Iran-Iraq) war is a mystic view. He was a mystic who went through a route leading him to a new outlook to the world, making him free from the materialistic life,” he explained.
Documentary filmmaker Mehrdad Oskuii also considers Avini’s written works and visual productions valuable and believes they need to be discussed, reviewed, and analyzed.
“Avini was a critic and worked with an analytical mind in cinema. He searched in the cinema in his years of activity and tried to clarify and theorize the meanings and the concepts, but there was not such outlook to his works after his martyrdom,” he remarked.
Oskuii went on to say that he made social docs beside his war documentaries which need also to be discussed. It is a good opinion if young documentary filmmakers review his productions as educational works.
“In the literature of war, there were more efforts to collect and review the works, but not such efforts are seen in cinematic productions. It is good if we do so on the occasion of the arrival of the 30th anniversary of the Sacred Defense,” he concluded.
Avini directed the 10-part series “A City in the Sky”, “With Kheibar Battalion”, “Spell or Miracle” and several other films. He published many written works, all of which are held in high esteem throughout Iran.
