Salamanca University to establish Persian course

An agreement to establish the course was signed this week by Iran’s cultural attaché to Spain, Mohammad Khezri, and the dean of Salamanca University, José Ramón Alons.

Khezri said that the Persian course will begin on February 11 at the Language and Literature Department of the university.

He added, “Language is the best means to share knowledge, culture, and experiences. And this agreement will help promote the Persian language in Spain.”

This will also help boost bilateral cooperation, and the collaboration will continue with Iranology mini-courses and conferences and cultural weeks in both countries, he stated.

Khezri expressed hope that the promotion of the Persian language would help familiarize Spaniards with the deep Persian culture and literature and strengthen the two nations’ friendship.

José Ramón Alons also expressed his satisfaction with the establishment of the Persian course at Salamanca University and called it a great honor for the university.

He noted that Persian is one of the most important Eastern languages and said, “We have provided vast facilities, including a library, computers, and research sources, for teaching Persian and will fully support the language department.”

The University of Salamanca (Spanish: Universidad de Salamanca) is located in the town of Salamanca, west of Madrid and is the second oldest university in Spain. It was founded by Alfonso IX in 1218.
