US seeks to seize $61m of Iran oil revenue

TEHRAN, Sep. 15 (MNA) – Washington has filed a lawsuit to seize $61 million in proceeds from Iranian oil sales, accusing Iran of laundering $1.5 billion in oil revenue through a cryptocurrency network operating in China.

In a hostile move, the U.S. Justice Department announced a lawsuit seeking to confiscate $61 million of revenue from Iran's sanctioned oil sales. 

The Justice Department claimed Iran used a network active in cryptocurrency in China to launder $1.5 billion of its oil revenues. It said it filed a claim to confiscate $61 million of the proceeds from Iran's oil sales, which are subject to sanctions.

No further details were immediately provided.
