Palestinian sources reported that Israeli forces shelled a school in the al-Tuffah neighborhood of eastern Gaza City on Friday evening, killing at least six Palestinians, including a woman, and injuring four others.
According to local sources cited by Al Jazeera, the school was being used as a shelter for displaced families at the time of the attack. Two of the wounded were reported to be in critical condition. The bodies of the victims and the injured were transferred to the hospital in central Gaza.
Witnesses told Turkey’s Anadolu Agency that an Israeli tank entered the al-Tuffah neighborhood, moved close to the school, and fired several shells, resulting in the deaths and injuries of a number of civilians. They added that Israeli forces prevented rescue and civil defense teams from reaching the site for more than two hours, delaying the evacuation of victims.
According to witnesses, the attack coincided with a wedding ceremony being held at the school, a factor that contributed to the high number of casualties.
