Iran, Russia arrange plans for Caspian Summit

TEHRAN, Oct. 13 (MNA) –Iran Envoy to Moscow Kazem Jalali and Russia’s representative to the Working Group on the Caspian Sea, Nikolai Udovichenko, discussed ongoing cooperation and preparations for upcoming Caspian events that will be hosted by Iran.

The meeting, held at Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday, focused on recent regional developments related to the Caspian Sea and coordination among the five littoral states.

The two sides reviewed progress on preparations for the 7th Summit of the Heads of State of the Caspian littoral countries, due to be held in Iran in August 2026, as well as the first International Conference of Caspian Provincial Governors, scheduled to take place in Iran’s northern Gilan Province on November 18 and 19.

Both officials highlighted the positive and constructive cooperation between Iran and Russia in Caspian affairs and emphasized the need to continue bilateral and multilateral consultations on issues of mutual concern, including joint management of living resources and environmental protection, combating narcotics trafficking, and expanding collaboration in transportation, transit, and trade.

They also reaffirmed their shared position on preventing the involvement of extra-regional powers in Caspian matters.
