Iran cooperation with IAEA on favorable track: FM

TEHRAN, May 02 (MNA) – The cooperation between Iran and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is on a favorable track and Tehran welcomes Rafael Grossi's visit to the country, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said.

Amir-Abdollhian made the remarks in a phone conversation with the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell on Wednesday night.

During the phone talk, the two sides discussed the relations between Iran and the European Union, as well as the latest developments in the region.

Referring to the ongoing genocidal war being carried out by the Israeli regime in the Gaza Strip, the top Iranian diplomat urged the European Union to play a role in ending the war in the besieged enclave.

Israel waged a genocidal war on the besieged Gaza on October 7 after the Palestinian Hamas Resistance group carried out a historic operation against the occupying entity in retaliation for the regime’s intensified atrocities against the Palestinian people.

Israel has imposed a complete siege on the densely populated territory, cutting off fuel, electricity, food, and water to the more than two million Palestinians living there.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Amir-Abdollahian touched upon the constructive role of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in ensuring sustainable peace in the region, saying that Europe must respect Iranian armed forces within the framework of international law.

Speaking about Iran's retaliatory attack on Israel on April 13, the foreign minister stressed that Tehran's response to Tel Aviv was based on its legitimate right to self-defense.

The Israeli regime attacked Iran's consulate in the Syrian capital of Damascus on April 1. The Israeli aggression led to the destruction of the entire building and the martyrdom and injury of the entire people inside it.

Seven of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) military advisors were martyred following the Israeli attack on Iran's consulate in Damascus, IRGC said in a statement.

In response to the Israeli aggression, Iran attacked the Israeli-occupied Palestinian territories with a barrage of drones and missiles early on Sunday.

Following the attack, Iran announced that it does not seek to create tension in the region and had carried out the anti-Zionist operation to punish the Zionist regime. However, the Iranian political and military officials have strongly warned that the country would give a severe response in case of any fresh Israeli aggression.

Amir-Abdollahian also welcomed the continuation of the dialogue between the European Union and Iran in order to advance bilateral cooperation.

Borrell, for his part, stressed that the European Union does not want tension with the Islamic Republic of Iran.

He welcomed the continuation of diplomatic consultations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the European Union.

Welcoming Iran's positive role in reducing tensions and restoring peace and stability to the region, the EU foreign policy chief called for reaching an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
